TO A SUCCESSFUL FUND RAISING GOLF TOURNAMENT

After two years of waiting, an outstanding team of volunteers took charge of hole number two on the East Course at the Broadmoor Hotel and Resort in Colorado Springs. The 2008 Senior Open was here.
The NBC news coverage was fantastic, including shots of a bear running across a fairway, a mother doe with her twin fawns and a little fox that refused to vacate a tee box. The weather cooperated, with only the first day having play suspended; however, there was a half hour delay the final day.

This tournament review is not so much about the event itself, but it is to thank those who worked so hard on our hole number two marshal team. I am especially thankful for my assistant captains Ron Maw, Trent Darling, Sara Weld, and Jim Ambuehl. They all went beyond the call of duty. Nine states were represented with about half of our team being from Colorado. The tournament itself boasted that volunteers were from all 50 states and numbered over 3,000.

Steve Czarnecki, of the USGA, was the Chairman of Gallery Control and Jeff Yeager was the Volunteer Manager. Frankie Patton was our Area Captain. What a great threesome these guys were. They managed and supported the marshals exceptionally well.
I was allowed to take photos the first two days, but tournament management forbid photos and autographs the third day of practice so I missed getting most of my team. That was unfortunate, but if you will scroll down now you will see some of these wonderful people.
