Today's journal article is just a teaser. I'm preparing to take off for Maui, Hawaii to vacation and review some of those beautiful golf courses for you.

Recently I have been playing and photographing many of the outstanding southern Colorado courses and will be writing them up while in Hawaii. The courses you will see in the Course Review section of SFG soon are as follows: These are in addition to the Hawaii courses.

The Country Club of Colorado: This course has the distinction of being the home course of Tom Glissmeyer, the 16-year-old Cheyenne Mountain high school ringer phenom who recently played in the U.S. Open.

The Golf Club at Bear Dance: Wow! The guys I played with say this course is very similar to the International Course at Castle Rock, Colorado. There is not a level green or fairway on the course. It's a mix of links, mountains, and forests.

Woodland Pines: This country club course is in Monument, Colorado and challenges golfers to keep shots straight and true. Narrow fairways with dense Ponderosa pines everywhere.

Valley Hi Municipal Golf Course: This is where I play in the senior league when I'm not out rating and reviewing other courses. This course provides more hazards and bunkers than any I have played. Interesting and home of the POOPs. I will be doing a series of articles on these retired/semi-retired employees. What does POOPs stand for? "People Of Outstanding Potential."

Gleneagle Golf Club: The course is under new management and is taking shape well. Senior golfers will enjoy the panoramic view of the southern Rockies.

Pine Creek Golf Club: I hope to play this course Thursday. Pine Creek is acknowledged as one of the most challenging in Colorado. It is the home course of the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs Professional Golf Association Professional Golf Management Business Marketing Program. (see the "Archives" for more information)

Upcoming features on John's Journal will include my reflecting back on the Grand Opening of the Colorado Section of the Professional Golf Association office. The office is located on the second floor of the Golf Club at Bear Dance clubhouse.

A senior golfers day at the races. While I am not a race fan and have not been to a big time race in over 30 years, I had the pleasure of going to the Honda Indy 225 at the Pikes Peak International Raceway this past Sunday (Father's Day). I was fortunate to get down in the pit area and have lots of great photos.

THE POOPs will just have to wait until I get back.

So, I have a plate full of stuff to do. My wife Marilynn has reminded me that the trip to Maui is a vacation. Well, SeniorFriendlyGolf.com is an on going vacation for me. I love this. It has put a spring in an old man's legs. At least a spring before 18 holes are played or played at.
