Each year about this time (February 13,14,15) the city of Denver, Colorado hosts its annual GOLF EXPO at the Merchandise Mart Pavilion. Next year when you attend be sure to go all the way around the buildings and park in the lots back there or you might find your vehicle towed if you park in the buyers or other business parking spaces. The Merchandise Mart is located on the north side of 58th Avenue next to the I-25 freeway on the north side of the city.

I promised exhibitors, about 60 of them, that I would put a photo of their booths on the SeniorFriendlyGolf.com web site. So, if you are an exhibitor and find your booth photo at the end of this journal article just email me (john@SeniorFriendlyGolf.com) and send me your phone number and I will call you to identify which photo is yours and send it to you so. You can then print it out to prove to whomever that you really were at the Expo and not out fishing or skiing somewhere. Be careful to request the number under your photo and not the one you were assigned at the Expo. No one will believe you are playing golf this time of year in Colorado. Of course that is not true. Many courses, as soon as the frost melts off the greens, will probably let you play year round. That's not all bad because you can sleep in rather than having to meet a sunrise tee time.

ADVANTAGE GOLF OF COLORADO

Before I write another word, I want to thank Advantage Golf of Colorado for allowing me to help them out at the Expo. Dennis McCann, President, and his wife Betsy were gracious hosts for me. Pictured above is Dennis, his wife Betsey was ill and is not pictured, his account executive Danna Simmons and her husband Todd, and Tom Carmody, who is a birddog for business in Colorado round out the Advantage Golf team. I too help them locate tournaments to help out in tournament organizer's quest to raise money for charities, benefits, and Non-profits. If you want to find out more information, just call Dennis at 720-482-1730 and tell him you heard about his company through the SeniorFriendlyGolf.com web site. You can also email him at dmmccan@advantagegolf.com. If you want help in southern Colorado email john@SeniorFriendlyGolf.com.

Who/what is Advantage Golf? To find out more go to the www.SeniorFriendlyGolf.com web site and check Journal entry #17 in the Archives or find them in the Product Review section.

SOME TIPS FOR FIRST TIMERS VISITING THIS OR ANY GOLF EXPO

If you just show up and browse around, you may regret not being prepared. This is especially true if you are going to take advantages of the great low prices on just about everything there. Know what you are looking for and what the best prices in town are. There may be some cases where the Expo does not have the best price. However, in the vast majority of cases you'll get great bargains. Anyway, do some price research. Walmart and Discount Golf shops should give you a price frame of reference. Write it all down and then go shoppin' at the Expo.

I recommend that you do research on everything from golf clubs and balls to golf gloves and umbrellas, if you are in the market for any of these or other specific items. Where do you go to do your research? I recommend one place, which can be reached from your computer over the internet. My friend, Wayne Williams, down in Sedona, Arizona is the president of www.GolfTestusa.com. Give it a look. In fact, spend some time on the site anytime you would like to find out how golf merchandise stacks up against each other through the site's testing. When you can, make a trip to Sedona. Your golf may suffer, however, since the scenery will distract you and even put you in a trance if you spend too much time admiring the beauty that surrounds the community. The community, by the way, has become quite a golfing destination.

One last thing about shopping at Golf Expos. They usually have a golf club swap connected with them. In Denver the Colorado Golf Association runs the swap and the money earned, as a percentage of the price asked, benefits junior golf in the state. Here again, do your research to make sure the clubs you buy have that great sweet spot to improve your game. The CGA and CWGA web site is www.golfhousecolorado.org.

In the photos to follow you will find everything from how golfers can have their spines adjusted to an inside driving range with the major club manufactures exhibiting their latest equipment, which you can try right on site.
