Journal Entry #11
Monday
July 14, 2003
On May 13, 2003, after 10 years of planning and hard work, the Colorado Section of the Professional Golf Association moved its offices to the second floor of the Golf Club at Bear Dance clubhouse. What will be of interest to the general public is the Historical Center, which occupies the entrance hall. www.coloradopga.com. The best way to get there is to take I-25 south from Denver or north from Colorado Springs and get off at exit 174 and go west, that's towards the mountains, to the first turn, which is Tomah Road. Go north on Tomah about a mile and a half and take a left. At the first turn you will see a sign for The Golf Club at Bear Dance and turn left or south and just follow the road for about three miles to the clubhouse and Colorado PGA Section office.

Scott Wellington is the Executive Director/CEO the PGA Colorado Section. At the grand opening he gave credit and praise to Denise Bassett, Director of Operations. I was there for the grand opening and the tearful speeches made by Scott and Alan Abrams, PGA section secretary, attested to the blood, sweat and tears everyone put into the move and the event. I won't show those photos, but their sincere feelings touched my heart

The grand opening ceremonies included the unveiling of the Indian Bear Dance sculpture. In attendance were many notable PGA members, including Dow Finsterwald and his lovely wife Linda.

I have visited the Larkspur offices several times and have met just about everyone there. Very nice and accommodating folks. When you visit the Historical Center, you might just go up the stairs to the PGA offices, and I am sure someone will give you a short tour. Short because the offices are more utilitarian than spacious. The first delightful person you will meet will be Shirley Reed, who is the Executive Assistant, Bookkeeper. You may also meet Rod Spears, Tournament Director, and Tom Johnson, Manager of Foundation Programs. I don't have a photo of Tom, but he is a very helpful person as well.

If you may be interested in making donations to support the Colorado Section Foundation I imagine you can do so by going to their website: www.coloradopga.com. If not, send me an email, and I'll get more information for you. john@seniorfriendlygolf.com. I recommend the best way to see the Historical Center is to book a tee time at the Golf Club at Bear Dance and tour the hall and offices before or after. www.thegolfclubatbeardance.com. The golf course is country club quality and is open to the public.
